Cheerleading

September 13, 2016

Cheer held sideline tryouts for current Kalani students on May 12th thru the 14th, then later held tryouts for incoming freshmen on the 26th and 27th. By May 30th the official sideline cheer roster was announced with both the JV team and Varsity team. JV and Varsity will be both cheering at the JV and Varsity football games respectively. The placement of the teams was decided by presence of smiles, peppiness, sharpness of motions, the height/technique of the right high kick, volume, confidence, stunting positions and, being able to perform multiple stunting positions (backspot, flyer, front, and base).

As the summer progressed, the cheer team had eleven practices by June 1st. Although they did not meet again till July 25th for sideline camp their cheer coach set individual goals for each of the girls to achieve over the summer. On the Saturday of every week they were asked to send in videos of the progress they had made on their goals. When the team got back together for sideline camp it was announced that they would be making cuts to the competition team.

The competition team will be competing as Kalani’s Varsity competition squad, and there will be no JV. Sideline camp lasted 6 days. The team then got back together on August 1st to begin sideline practice. They now hold practice every Monday and Wednesday for sideline practice and Thursday for competition practice. The team also participated in tumbling at Island Elite. They are looking forward to a fun and rewarding season this year.
