Peanut butter jars

Peanut Butter Jars

Hey everybody, it’s Shaina, and today I made some peanut butter-on the go-jars from Buzzfeed. It was a very simple and fun process, easy enough for even children to do. I cut the recipe into fourths because there is no way I can eat 12 peanut butter jars, even with Reina’s help

Here’s how to make it:

PB JARS (creates 3 jars):

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup powdered sugar

  • 2 ounces softened cream cheese

  • ¼ cup peanut butter

  • 4 ounces of whipped topping

  • Graham crackers

  • Hard shell chocolate topping

  • 3 jam jars

  • Toppings (optional)

    • Crushed peanuts

    • Mini chocolate chips

    • Rainbow sprinkles

    • Additional toppings

Steps

  1. In a large mixing bowl beat together powdered sugar, cream cheese, and peanut butter.

  2. Fold in 2 ounces of the whipped topping.

  3. Crush half a graham cracker into the bottom of a jam jar.

  4. Drizzle a layer off hard shell over the graham cracker (this will firm up and act as a barrier to ensure the graham crackers stay crunchy).

  5. Spoon in the peanut butter pie mixture, filling the jam jar 3/4 of the way.

  6. Top off with whipped topping and additional toppings to your liking.

  7. Chill the jars in the fridge for at least 1 hour before serving.

In terms of the recipe, I think it is great. The instructions are easy to follow and the results are definitely worth it. I didn’t run into any problems and think that it is easy enough to make with children, too. These may not be the healthiest treats, but they are an easy dessert you can make with your friends and family. The process was a 10/10 because it took around 20 minutes to actually make and only 1 extra hour in the fridge. The hard shell chocolate is a must because it makes the bottom crust taste a lot better and improves the texture by a landslide. I also ran a bit short on the peanut butter portion, but this was because I divided the recipe. Everything was simple and easy to find in my local grocery store, and was fairly inexpensive. I would definitely remake this recipe, and overall enjoyed the entire process.

For flavor, I would rate these jars a 9/10. They’re a bit rich for my taste, but I still thoroughly enjoyed them and would recommend them to anyone. The graham cracker crust was crunchy and chocolatey, providing a break from the creamy peanut butter filling and whipped topping. They were simply decadent and delicious, and ended up looking alright too. I didn’t have too many jars, but still managed to make due with these bowls and one jar. If you do put this dessert in a jar, then these are a great on-the-go dessert for the office or school. I think these are definitely worth anytime they take to make, and hope you can give it a try on your own!

(Just a sidebar: My review may be a bit more positive than Reina’s because I did get to try these jars fresh and cold. Her jar was melting and 4 days old, oops!)

Reina didn’t get to help make our recipe this time, but she did get to try it! Here’s what she thought…

Hey y’all, I’m back.  Peanut butter isn’t exactly one of my favorite foods, but I was willing to try these Peanut Butter Jars since it isn’t pure peanut butter.  Shaina gave me a peanut butter jar four days after she made it.  It was visually messy, but it had been melting and being shaken in Shaina’s bag.  The first bite was really rich and good, but eating the components separately tasted strange.  The flavors mixed really well, but you could still taste each part.  The graham cracker still had a bit of a crunch which tasted really good with the chocolate coating.  The peanut butter mix was creamy and thick, but didn’t coat the inside of my mouth at all.  I think it is an acquired taste though.  Two other 9th graders who tried it claimed that “the texture is like baby food and it tastes really weird,” but I personally liked the way the cream cheese and the peanut butter mixed.  However, I was kind of over it at the end, since there was too much peanut butter mix and not enough balance.  Also, the quantity of the rich food was overbearing.  It would probably taste better on bagels or toast since the richness would have an accompanying texture.  Overall, this recipe was pretty good, but I would only recommend this to people who enjoy peculiar flavors.  Peace, Reina.
