Oreo Truffles

May 17, 2017

Hi guys, it’s Shaina, and recently I reviewed a buzzfeed recipe on Oreo Truffles. The ingredients were easily accessible and the directions were very straightforward, making for a great cooking process. Here’s how I made them!

OREO TRUFFLES (Serves 6-8)

Ingredients

  • 36 chocolate sandwich cookies

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened

  • 12 ounces white chocolate, melted

  • Optional food coloring

Preparation

  1. In a food processor, finely crush the cookies, reserving about 2 tablespoons of the mixture for sprinkling on top of the truffles.

  2. In a large bowl, combine cookie crumbs and cream cheese, stirring until evenly mixed.

  3. Chill the mixture for about an hour or until the mixture can be rolled into a ball and hold its shape.

  4. Form the mixture into small balls (the size of golf balls).

  5. Dip the truffles in the melted white chocolate and place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

  6. Sprinkle some of the cookie crumbs on top of the chocolate-coated truffle before the chocolate hardens.

  7. Repeat with the rest of the truffles, reheating the chocolate if necessary.

Shaina’s Review

In terms of the recipe, I would rate this Buzzfeed treat a 9/10. With only three ingredients, this dessert was quick and easy to make, and resulted in a delicious final product. There were only a few complications in the cooking process, but they could be easily avoidable next time. The issues mainly circled around the white chocolate. I attempted to add an array of different colors to all the white chocolate, as advertised by some other sites. However, this made my chocolate clump up and become hard very quickly, leading to a very difficult time while dipping the centers into the covering. I had to spread the chocolate onto the cookie combination, which led to very thick coatings on each ball. However, this eventually ended up contributing to the decadent and rich flavor of the dessert, making it tastier in my opinion. While these were tasty, I only recommend eating one at  a time because of how indulgent they are. This deep flavor is enjoyable, but can also be overpowering and would not be good for those who aren’t a big fan of rich, sweet, foods. Overall, this Buzzfeed treat proved to be simple, yummy, and one on my favorites by the end of the day.

Reina’s Review

When Shaina brought these to me, I was very surprised. She gave me a red spiky ball and a green spiky ball and I was very hesitant to eat them. However, after the first bite, I was hooked. I must have eaten at least four oreo truffles before I managed to stop. I would rate them a 9/10. They did taste really good, but I think that the coloring kind of was weird and not as smooth as it could have been. I also think that they would be better smaller so that you could just pop them in your mouth.

The richness of the cream cheese worked really well with the dry chocolate cookies. It was really good and creamy, but it actually wasn’t too rich. I think that eating around one or two at a time is good. I didn’t believe Shaina when she told me that she made them out of three ingredients and I was amazed at how the three things complemented each other so well and was a perfect dessert made in a simple way.
