Daynna Mekaru is swinging for the fences as she practices on Dec. 6, at Roosevelt High School softball field so she can be ready for her upcoming season as a sophomore at Mid-Pacific Institute. All public parks are currently open for anyone who wants to exercise, practice, or have a picnic with family or friends. The guidelines for parks in Tier Two are five people maximum and no masks when exercising; however, masks are highly recommended if you’re not 6 feet away from a person inside the park. Students should be going to their local parks and staying in shape, especially if they’re planning on playing for a Kalani sports team which is tentatively set to resume in 3rd Quarter. School halls remain largely empty, even as Kalani High School allows seniors to return to class on Monday, Nov. 23. The majority of students - freshmen, sophomores, and juniors - now receive schooling online, a months-long development that Kalani student Joseph Kim (10) describes as “kinda scuffed.” Photo and caption by Virgil Lin.
