On Tuesday November 24, 2015, Turkey downed a Russian fighter jet claiming it “was in its airspace”. Vladimir Putin States that Turkey’s actions is a “stab in the back” and “extreme consequences” are insured. The U.N. Security council received a letter from Turkey stating, “Along with a second plane, the aircraft had flown more than a mile into Turkey for 17 seconds without changing course despite several warnings”. U.S. President Barack Obama and French Prime Minister Francois Hollande urged against escalation while NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said the military alliance stood in solidarity with Turkey. Footage from a private Turkish Channel shows the Russian jet going down in flames. Other videos show two pilots parachuting before their fighter crashed.
