Falcons fly through time – 2016 homecoming

September 27, 2016

Homecoming was a new experience for us as freshmen and we just want to share it with all of you.

Let’s recap, starting from the very first day of Spirit Week, Throwback Tuesday. There were so much people who participated and everyone was dressed up in crazy clothes. It was super fun, with the freshmen wearing clothes from the 80’s, sophomores in clothes from the 90’s, juniors representing the 60’s, and seniors going all out for the 50’s. What a wide variety of the past.Congrats to the juniors who won first place with the most adorable dance ever. That was only the first day too, along with the first Powderpuff game and tug-o-war. The next day was the always awesome, Sport’s Day. Everyone dressed up in sportswear from their favorite team. This went along with the lunch activity of Powderpuff football. Thursday was wear your class color day. Freshmen wore green, sophomores wore white, juniors with blue, and the great seniors wore maroon. Some activities on that day were the Powderpuff game during lunch and the homecoming assembly. In the homecoming assembly we welcomed in our homecoming court. Let’s also give regards to the video makers, cheer, and banner. Congratulations to everyone who won and good luck for next year to those who lost. On Friday, everyone showed school spirit by dressing in red or white.

There are so many different viewpoints of what happened during Homecoming and spirit week from the advisors to the students. Ms. Whang, the senior advisor, exclaimed that there’s been a lot of growth in her leadership students with strategy and how they could improve for the two years that she’s been with them. With Ms. Costales, the junior’s advisor, she expressed that she herself along with her students were amazed that they had won overall but they are definitely preparing themselves for competition next year. Ms. Chang talked about her thoughts when she first became an advisor for the freshmen class, how it was to be a new teacher and already have the job advisor pinned on her. Mr. Masuda, the freshmen advisor, refers back to before he was an advisor and how that helped him in advising the freshmen do their best. Overall, we can definitely say that the advisors for all grades had a fun time and learned from previous experiences and loved this year’s theme. Great job K.A.S, can’t wait to see what we’ll have for next year.

Now, going to our student peers, we have a wide variety of perspectives based on how homecoming and spirit week went. For the freshmen, there were a lot of disappointed people, but their leadership group had fun and they’re definitely going to have an epic comeback next year. Sophomores Vu and Kaitlyn shared their opinion with how homecoming went, “The pep rally was fun and the burning of the K was cool. The football game was fun especially at half time because the band played and the banners were shown from the different classes.” But some of them lacked school spirit and claimed they didn’t care about homecoming week. Sorry to hear that, but from the Juniors, they were amazed with the pep rally and enjoyed what they saw at the homecoming assembly. Rounding up with our Seniors, half of their peers said that they had fun and were glad of the outcome, while others said it wasn’t as spirited or lively as the others and that it is kind of boring after four years. That’s all the opinions from our leadership and peers, but let’s go to what some of the football players thought. From junior varsity, sophomore, Lokahi Kanahele, states on how they could’ve improved on their communication in the game, which he hopes will help with their games and such. Kainalu Eliana-Paulson, a senior defensive lineman, shared his views. He believes that since it was their last homecoming game, they all worked harder and did well shown as he stated “Because it was our last homecoming game as seniors, we definitely worked harder”

As freshmen this was our first ever homecoming that we participated in so it was an exciting experience for us. It was fun to see all the classes put so much effort into their dance, videos, and banners in time for the homecoming assembly and pep rally. There was a lot of energy during the pep rally from band and from all the students who came. Homecoming was a truly exciting experience for us as freshmen and can’t wait for the upcoming years.
