Dear Ms. Potterton – Hawaii tourism confrence

September 21, 2015

Ms. Potterton recently took 5 of her students to the Hawaii Tourism Conference. The students learned meaningful things and had an awesome experience. Here is what they shared:

Two days that I spent for Hawaii Tourism Conference were very meaningful. Listening to business professional’s experiences, analysis of current business all over the world, logical prediction of ever-changing business, and plans to catch up with it was a great experience that I would never have if I didn’t go to the conference. The conference covered so many fields, including international business, airline, hotel industry, and of course, tourism. Since my career goal is to be an airport manager, it was very helpful for me to have airline and international sessions. In addition, I could also learn how to speak effectively in front of the audience and how a powerpoint can be used to help the speech. I’m really glad that I was chosen as one of the five participants from Kalani, and I hope to go such a business event again if I have another opportunity.

Dear Ms. Potterton

At the Hawaii Tourism Conference, I experienced valuable time with professionals from foreign countries and here. Because as a student it is so rare and lucky to go to this professional conference and listen to many speakers about their companies and countries. For example, in the traditional accommodations: Hawaii Hotel and Timeshare update, I learned how the hotel company works to correct the tourism to their hotel, because Hawaii has many hotels in a city and I think the competition here is much harder than other countries. And all of their ideas are creative and care about customers wants and needs.

I felt I learned many things from these professionals and I realized that what we are learning in the class is useful in the business future. I felt proud when the professional talked about what we learned in the class. Interesting things that I learned are the presentation that talked about the European economy, they were planning to correct the tourism to Hawaii from there and make money, and the targeting to the next generations which they talked about how is young generation want to travel and what are they looking for the trip.

I have many things that I want to write, but the most valuable thing that I learned is the way professionals present and create a power point, in this conference I learned the presentation skills, organized and creative power point is much more important than I thought. So I want to work on my skills and creativity to create a great power point.

Thank you so much for taking me to this amazing tourism conference.

Sincerely,

Nana Otsuka
