Loading ...Marcus Hill also known as “Dyrus” in the gaming world is a Kalani High School graduate who made a famous career by playing video games. According to the”Dyrus” article found on Wikipedia, Marcus Hill started his career when he first played a game called, “League of Legends” in its BETA phase. He originally was a support member for his team. In the Wikipedia article, it states that Dyrus became famous in the gaming/ league of legends community with all of his wins in competitions all over the world. He won competitions in places like South Korea, New Jersey, Sweden and a lot of other colorful places in the world. Dyrus started streaming on Twitch, which is a website where people can watch him play video games live. This is exactly how he gained exposure.
Kalani High School senior Erin Hoe is one of the many video gamers on school campus who is addicted to playing video games. She agrees that playing video games is addicting but enjoys the feeling of playing them. “It’s like we are going on an adventure!” she says. Erin likes to play action or adventure type games with free-world function (exploring open worlds), mostly ones with a really great storyline with the added bonus action features. When asked if it affected her types of friends or grades she said, “It’s not very often where video games affect my grades as a whole but it may affect one piece of homework. I don’t have a desire to deal with the real world but instead I escape through the adventures offered by my video games.” Regarding friends she said, “Sometimes because video games can be a topic where people can connect from, a topic to talk about.” The addiction of video games has its limits when it comes to school work but Erin manages to do both but it’s mostly a parent’s rule that homework comes first, then video games. Lastly to balance school with video games and sleep, there is a technology time limit that she must follow unless it is a holiday or weekend. Only then can she stay up to maybe midnight but not any later than that.
