High school students in the U.S. spend more time on homework. According to the U.S. News & World Report in 2014, “High school students get assigned up to 17.5 hours of homework per week, according to a survey of 1,000 teachers.” Many teachers feel it is necessary to assign their students homework to help them learn by figuring out problems and spending time absorbing the material. However, according to U.S. News, in countries like Finland, students are assigned “only about three hours of homework a week.” Even then, in 2012, Finnish students scored the sixth highest in the world in reading and 12th highest in math on a standardized test known as the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

This bear resembling, friendly creature brings joy to all who reside in this house. Seven year old American Akita named Kuma happily smiles for the camera. She loves to go for car rides, walks in the park, and just chill with her family. Studies show that having a dog by your side can help relieve stress and provide good company. One study even discovered that being in contact or communicating with a dog can help lower blood pressure! How can you not resist such an adorable face? Photo by Kenneth Wong 2017.
