Falcons are flightless after 30-0 loss to Rough Riders

The Falcons were pummeled by their Rough Rider rivals in a 30-0 loss that drops the Falcons to 0-3 against their Division II opponents on the season. Roosevelt was able to score four rushing touchdowns against the Kalani defense, including 50-yard breakout from their quarterback S. Ogata.

The Falcons were unable to mount any offensive drives and continued to struggle throughout the game. They punted the ball away seven times and threw an interception in the fourth quarter that sealed the game for the Rough Riders, who scored as a result.

Even with dampened spirits, some Kalani players are still seeing things on the bright side. “I was glad to be able to support my team that night,” injured Kalani senior Kaizen Matsuda said. “But even though we didn’t get the results we wanted I am proud to be on a team that gives it their all and never quits”

Despite their struggles, the Falcons were able to take away a few positive impact plays from the game. With S. Etscheit recording the only sack for the falcons, and strong safety Javan Montiho blocking an extra point attempt by the Rough Riders.

The only offensive highlight from the Falcons came early in the first quarter when wide receiver and kick-returner Micah Matsuda returned a kickoff for more than 40 yards that erupted the crowd.

“I should’ve went left,” M. Matsuda continued. “I would’ve been able to break that return for a TD, It’s always been a dream of mine.”

Despite the loss, many of the boys are anxious for their next game against their long time rivals, the Kaiser Cougars. A win against their rivals would mean everything for their team morale, and hopefully, put their season in the right direction.
