Love was in the air at Kalani High School this past week, though it arrived on a slightly chaotic schedule. Originally intended to be a four-day celebration following Monday’s Teacher Institute Day, the week was shortened when bad weather and strong winds forced the Hawaii Department of Education to shuffle its calendar. With the HSTA union event moved to Friday, students were left with a three-day sprint from Tuesday, February 10, to Thursday, February 12.
Despite the shortened timeframe, the Falcons showed up with impressive intensity, proving that a little rain couldn’t dampen the school’s competitive heart.
The spirit week kicked off Tuesday with Jeans Up Day, where the Freshmen took an early lead with a dominant 40% participation rate. However, the momentum shifted on Wednesday during the highly anticipated Barbie vs. Army face-off. In cammo and neon pink, the Sophomores edged out the competition with 22%, narrowly beating the Juniors at 21%. The Senior class, unfortunately, found themselves struggling to find their footing early on, consistently landing in fourth place as the underclassmen took control of the leaderboard.
The week concluded on Thursday with Twin Day, a final push for spirit points that saw the Junior class finally claim the top spot with 28% participation. The Sophomores maintained their steady performance to take second at 18%, while the Freshmen and Seniors rounded out the results at 16% and 15%, respectively.
Even though the week was shorter than expected, the costumes and class spirit ensured that Valentine’s Week was a highlight for students, faculty and staff!
