A student sits on his bed while he checks his Google Classroom homepage. As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, many students are doing distance learning and learning from home with classes being held over Google Meet. Most students study from home using technology such as phones, iPads and laptops. Distance learning for all students went through mid-November; seniors started hybrid learning on Nov. 23. The second semester begins on Jan. 6, 2021 and hybrid learning for freshmen starts the second week of January. Photo and caption by Daniel Zheng.

Daynna Mekaru is swinging for the fences as she practices on Dec. 6, at Roosevelt High School softball field so she can be ready for her upcoming season as a sophomore at Mid-Pacific Institute. All public parks are currently open for anyone who wants to exercise, practice, or have a picnic with family or friends. The guidelines for parks in Tier Two are five people maximum and no masks when exercising; however, masks are highly recommended if you’re not 6 feet away from a person inside the park. Students should be going to their local parks and staying in shape, especially if they’re planning on playing for a Kalani sports team which is tentatively set to resume in 3rd Quarter.
