Girls’ golf top at Easterns

On Monday, April 11, the Kalani High School golf team competed in the Eastern Division Golf Tournament at Ewa Villages Golf Course. The Kalani girls’ team won, while the boys were runner-ups. Teal Matsueda (11) is the girl’s Eastern Champion who won with a score of 66 strokes.

“I just wanted to have fun because it was our last one before champs,” Teal Matsueda (11) said. “I went with the mindset that this is just another round and I shouldn’t stress out too much.”

Kara Kaneshiro (11) placed 2nd overall with a score of 69. Kailee McKee placed 10th with a score of 79, Kirra Kawai placed 12th with a score of 81, and Rachael Wang placed 14th with a score of 82. Abigayle Vendiola, Alexis Yonemoto, and Jinie Ho also participated in this Eastern Championship.

Zaedis Yoshizawa placed 2nd in the boy’s division with a score of 72.

“This was the first time I shot under par, so it was a very exciting moment for me,” Sophomore Zaedis Yoshizawa exclaimed. “I was a little disappointed because I came in second, but it gives me more motivation to do better in the future.”

Parker Smith came in 17th with a score of 86. Logan Smith and Bryson Nakata tied in 47th place. Zachery Tan came in 50th place. Kai Tatemoto and Leoni Benzaken followed after.

The Kalani Golf Team will be competing next week Monday in the OIA Championship.
