Kalani JV Softball defeated Castle 10-8 on Wednesday, Sept. 24, and pitcher Kealohilani Neal-Viela (9) got 16 strikeouts.
“I felt pretty good to get 16 because my last game I got 9 and this game I didn’t think I would get that much.”
The game was so intense that it actually got dragged out longer than expected. The game started at 3 p.m. and ended at 6 p.m.
“I think we underestimated Castle, they’re a pretty good team,“ Neal-Viela states.
In their game against Kailua on Wednesday, Sept. 17, Neil-Viela had 9 strikeouts for her team. With that arm, you would think she had some kind of method leading to her success.
“Focusing pitch after pitch, throwing fast balls and curves, and whatever doesn’t work, I try to get my rhythm back,” Neal-Viela explains.
Coach Haley Suzuki says she deserves the praise.
“She works hard, even since the beginning of the season; she’s been working every day at practice, Suzuki says. “She also has a really good attitude and she never gives up.”
