Artist Spotlight: Halloween Horror ?

Kalani students express their personalities through their skating style, decorations, and even the scuff marks on their boards. These are some of the skateboards that belong to the students that go here. They are all in a secure stand where they are kept throughout the school day. This skateboard stand is located in front of the office right next to the library entrance. This represents skate culture here at Kalani. Students have various ways of getting places according to their preferences and age. Kalani students are diverse and their personalities are unique in every way. That’s part of what makes Kalani, Kalani.

Kalani’s D building mural was painted for the Class of 2018. Handprints of some students from that class are placed on and around it with a beachs golden sand and blue ocean wave. This mural is a representation of Kalani’s strong sense of community and artistic talent. The detail and shading shows the effort and care of the students. And the handprints left behind display their sense of belonging to this school.

This mural can be found in the upstairs hallway that connects C and D buildings. This is a great visual representation of Kalani because it shows how in the end, it is going to be great. The sun represents great endings and what is to come. The strong waves and sea represent the tough times in between. These tough times, though, will prepare you for life and help you achieve whatever you put your mind to.

Tyler Grune (11) competes in the 110 meter hurdles at the OIA Eastern Divsional finals on Saturday, April 8. He took 4th in that event. According to his coach, Brooke Nasser, Grunes success in the hurdles is remarkable when you consider he practices on grass in trainers.

Ikaika Nishitomi referees a wrestling match on Mat 3 between wrestlers from Mililani (wearing gold on his left shoulder) and Campbell (wearing orange on his thigh) on Dec. 7 at Kalani High School. In the background, two Mililani coaches yell shots to their school’s wrestler, watching him drive his opponent for a pin. The Kalani Falcons hosted this season’s first wrestling tournament. Thirty-one Falcons participated: 17 junior varsity players and 14 varsity players. For this Round Robin tournament, wrestlers competed in three rounds per match. High schools participating in the competitions take turns hosting the winter sport’s nearly weekly Saturday events.
