Saara Nicole Chadwick is a 15-year-old freshman at Kalani. Although soft-spoken and mellow, most people are surprised when her murmurs spontaneously turn into joyful shouting. She usually doesn’t realize when her volume fluctuates — it’s natural. However, she can’t help but express her euphoria. Warm-hearted and a sporadic poetry writer, Saara enjoys the simple things — sprinkled with a little competition.

Shoppers in Hawaii wait for admission to Costco, clumped and in winding lines. Staff accepted a group of customers for every group that exited, minimizing panicked shopping and the potential spreading of the coronavirus. However, Costco lines, unlike those outside of stores like Whole Foods, do not have social distancing precautions. Honolulu reached 343 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 5 deaths by April 10. Audrey Tang is an English I and English III teacher at Kalani High School. Growing up in Hawaii Kai and Kaimuki, Ms. Tang wanted to pursue a teaching career close to home. Kalani High School stood out because of its location, a mix between Hawaii Kai and Kaimuki. Beyond career activities, Ms. Tang enjoys connecting with friends and her environment through outdoor activities like hiking. Kalani hosts AP informational meeting

In the background, two Mililani coaches yell shots to their school’s wrestler, watching him drive his opponent for a pin. The Kalani Falcons hosted this season’s first wrestling tournament. Thirty-one Falcons participated: 17 junior varsity players and 14 varsity players. For this Round Robin tournament, wrestlers competed in three rounds per match. High schools participating in the competitions take turns hosting the winter sport’s nearly weekly Saturday events.
