It’s 2020! Here’s a review of 2019s words that are outdated and overused, and need to be retired.

Definition: (phrase) used as a retort to mock or dismiss seemingly narrow-minded, outdated negatively-judgmental, or condescending attitudes of older people, particularly baby boomers.

Why it should be retired: Teenagers began to use this phrase as a general way to dismiss people, it was a way to completely shut down other’s ideas and opinions.

Definition: (verb) an exclamation of excitement, approval, surprise, or all-around energy, often as issued when doing a dance move or throwing something.

Why it should be retired: Over time, this word has lost its true meaning amongst teens, and has now transformed into a word used during an awkward situation.

Definition: (interjection) a slang term of affirmation, agreement, or approval along the lines of “Cool!” or “I’m down!” It can also suggest doubt or disbelief: “Yeah, sure.”

Why it should be retired: It is currently unused and has turned into more of a threat… In a playful way.

Definition: (verb) known as a texting emoticon used to show cuteness but is also considered a sin to the internet world.

Why it should be retired: This word is basically banned worldwide and should never used in any circumstances unless you want to be attacked. It is fully viewed as a “furry” term. When used, people automatically believe that the person is a furry, and people have very strong and negative opinions about that culture.

Definition: (interjection) what you say when someone says/does something stupid. Usually, the hand is extended and pointed towards the intended person.

Why it should be retired: Overused and too frequently shouted.

THICC (Pronounced Thick)

Definition: (adjective) The appearance of a very seductive female, in most cases the woman will have a pair of large thighs. In some cases, it’s used inappropriately, but most times this word is used as praise or compliment.

Why it should be retired: This term is geared towards women with large thighs and it can be very intimidating and demeaning. Girls often feel like they need to reach this standard in order for others to take notice of them.
